Fishermen's Marks

We are indebted to local fishermen, especially Gordon Morrison of Misty Angling fishing trips, for providing us with their wreck marks for exploration. Before the days of accurate seabed surveys, fishermen's marks were the most reliable way of finding shipwrecks. We have collected these marks over the years from men who fished them with hand lines and trawler crews who knew to avoid them for fear of tangling their trawl gear. They came to us as transit positions and sometimes, as coordinates for the now defunct Decca system. We have had great fun finding them.

The tables below list the marks as they are known to local fishermen together with the name of the ship wrecked in that location.
